NOTE FOR REVIEWER'S

What You Need to Know.

This is something that has been in my mind a lot since being online and also before when reading papers or other pages.

When reviewing something remember you are reviewing something someone has worked incredibly hard on.
If you don't like it then DON'T be scathing, think of how you would feel if someone told you your work was pathetic.
Bad and unhelpful reviews can have a serious effect on someone's mental health and could lead to serious problems for some. You might not think it, sitting behind a keyboard but words have consequences.

If I don't like a book or film I never give any less than a three.
Why? Because I'm not reviewing just to give my opinion. You are reviewing something that will appeal to someone.

An example is Harry Potter, I don't like it, I find it dull and tedious BUT...many adults do like it and would.
So I start saying it isn't my cup of tea but then will highlight and focus on what is good about it, who it would appeal to.

A lot of effort goes into writing, into music and such. Don't destroy it with coldness. Say your piece but then look at who would love it and give the author that encouragement.

Words can hurt. I have seen too many fall into an abyss where they are trapped, sometimes leading to permanent darkness. I am not saying this to guilt shame anyone, only that keeping passion alive is key to the survival of any art form. And I, like many, many others, like reviews that target books, CD's etc towards their audience.

Always remember how you  would feel. And of course...keep up your good work as well!
